Throughout history, we humans have witnessed hundreds of civilizations lose hope of seeing change and yet there always come people who bring change to this world in times nobody would expect.

Hexagram 49 from the I Ching is known as the Hexagram of change and that is for good reason. It enlightens you about the art of bringing reform to a world that never seems to let go of its stubborn old ways.

Hexagram 49 Message

When the world and its masses get used to living life a certain way, it’s extremely difficult to break them out of those patterns and fix underlying issues that might be being ignored. Loopholes and working around the issue can only work for so long. After a certain point, change isn’t an option, it’s a necessity.

It’s very rare to see meaningful change occur on its own. More often than not, big revolutions start with one person who is then joined by like-minded parties willing to assist and get the change going in practicality. Just making noise usually isn’t enough and real work needs to be done to get the right people together and bring reform to a faulty/corrupted system.

There are, however, drawbacks to sparking a revolution, especially in a community that is hostile towards change. Apart from people completely rejecting the idea, authorities in power can make revolutionists a target. To bring change anywhere, serious will and motives are needed to withstand the outrage of the masses.

Hexagram 49 Message For Love & Relationships

Your definition of love can be very different from your community’s definition of love. While it’s okay to seek general life advice from the wise and live according to their ways, love is rather a personal matter. Everyone has a different way of expressing and interpreting that feeling.

Do not let others dictate how you interpret love that comes your way; people rarely know what it’s like to step in another person’s shoes.

Messages From The Lines Of Hexagram 49

Hexagram 49 Symbol

Line 1:

In certain situations, an honest attempt is the maximum you can do to bring change. Yes, putting in effort and not giving up when retaliation is faced is part of the process of bringing change, but you need to understand that the best one can do is try. There’s no need to beat yourself up if things don’t work out your way; at least you tried and that’s all that matters.

Line 2:

When there’s a lot at stake, pressure is built up to bring unrealistic reforms within impossible time frames. When you have many volunteers assisting alongside then it’s totally fine to divide tasks according to everyone’s specialties and get things done quicker. A small team, however, can only do things so fast. Not meeting expectations/criteria can have consequences but so will doing things too quickly and haphazardly. A choice has to be made!

Line 3:

Retaliation is neither a good nor a bad sign. When someone steps up to propose the idea for change, initial retaliation can mean that people oppose the idea. However, it can also be a sign that those who were potentially benefiting from dishonesty/corruption before are being negatively affected now, which is a good thing. Taking retaliation at face value won’t be the best idea in this case.

Line 4:

Everyone starts somewhere. Not every revolution attracts millions of supporters overnight; sometimes reform has to be fed into people’s minds. What you stand up for/against today might be because of your extraordinary wisdom but your community might take a while to catch up to that. Give people the time to understand and truly realize the kind of change you intend to bring; sometimes even the best of shows need time to attract a faithful audience.

Line 5:

Before a snake bites, it hisses loudly and rapidly to make the victim aware of its intentions.

When sparking a revolution, the worst mistake you can make is not make the people or community you’re “targeting” aware of your intentions. Not having a solid game plan, motive, and objective in place waves a big red flag to those you wish to have on board as supporters. It’s impossible for one person to make meaningful change, so you have to come in with the right agenda that at least draws some eyes that relate or understand.

Line 6:

When your objective is achieved, it’s time to put an end to the movement. Continuing to voice the message even after you and your people have brought the reforms is a pointless waste of time and energy. Celebrate with companions and parties that assisted and enjoy the fruit of your struggle in peace.
